Decorative Box

with four ramekins

A few design captures from this project.

  • Boxes are an excellent introduction to woodworking, offering flexibility to match your skill level. They can be as simple or complex as you wish, but achieving perfectly square 90-degree corners—a fundamental skill—can be surprisingly challenging for beginners. Despite this, boxes are great starter projects because they are quick to complete and relatively inexpensive.

  • If you're unsure about your design, working at full scale can make visualizing the final product much easier. Taking direct measurements from key elements, like a ramekin in this case, ensures more accurate sizing and alignment.

  • Exploring new techniques, such as hand-building, is a valuable way to expand your skills. Although it might have been simpler to create the ramekins on a pottery wheel, experimenting with a different method provided an opportunity for growth and learning.

  • And after writing "ramekin" so many times, I’m finally confident in spelling it correctly—no judgment, please!
